Overview and Aims
This unit has two parts. The first develops learners’ understanding of E-Commerce strategies and the elements required to set up and implement an E-Commerce solution. The second develops learners’ ability to identify, select, and integrate relevant APIs into a mobile application of their choice.
Aims:
- Provide understanding of E-Commerce technologies, payment systems, and project planning and delivery.
- Develop practical skills in designing, implementing, and evaluating a functional E-Commerce solution.
- Build competence in mobile application development using APIs, with testing and critical evaluation.
Indicative Content (Summary)
- Web architecture: server-side scripting, client/server interaction, dynamic pages, cookies, plug-ins.
- Hardware/software: web servers, shopping cart software, TCP/IP, domain registration, access security.
- E-Commerce payment methods: online transaction processing, COTS, PayPal, WorldPay.
- Implementation and evaluation: SWOT analysis, user testing (white box, black box).
- Mobile app development: Android (Java/SDK), iOS (iOS SDK), Universal Windows Platform (.NET).
- API types: ASPI, Java APIs, OpenGL, OpenCL, OpenMP, ODBC, SDL, SAPI; API security considerations.
- Prototyping types: proof-of-concept, working, visual, functional, paper, and user experience prototypes.
- Black-box testing techniques: equivalence partitioning, boundary value analysis, state transition testing, use case testing.
Outcomes
Learners will be able to:
- Be able to plan an E-Commerce project (technologies, payment systems, specification, project plan).
- Be able to design and implement an E-Commerce solution and evaluate its success.
- Be able to develop a mobile application on a chosen platform utilising multiple APIs.
- Be able to implement APIs to a mobile application and critically evaluate the solution.
