What You’ll Learn
You will learn how IT projects are actually planned, executed, and controlled. You will study the project life cycle, recognised methodologies, planning and scheduling, budgeting, risk management, and stakeholder communication. You will also see how cybersecurity and information governance integrate into project planning.
What You’ll Do
You will plan and manage a simulated IT project, producing all the supporting artefacts, including a schedule, risk register, communication plan, and a final project report. You will also produce security-aware design documents, logs, and incident or policy artefacts that become part of your Level 5 cybersecurity portfolio.
Why It Matters
Technical skill alone doesn’t get you promoted. Project leadership does. This module trains you to lead, not just contribute — which is what separates a good IT professional from a great one.
Cyber security across Level 5 — our signature strand
Most programmes teach cybersecurity in one module and then forget about it. We don’t. Every Level 5 module has a deliberate cybersecurity strand woven through it:
- Software Engineering trains you in secure coding — input validation, mitigating injection patterns, and secure version control.
- Database Systems trains you in user roles, privilege management, encryption, backup, and basic audit trails.
- Network Information Systems trains you in network segmentation, access control lists, firewall basics, and cloud network security with Azure.
- Management Information Systems trains you to design security-aware information systems and map controls to organisational policy.
- Advanced Systems Analysis and Design trains you to embed security into system architecture from the start.
- IT Project Management trains you to manage security as a project deliverable, not an afterthought.
By the end of Level 5, you will have produced a complete cybersecurity portfolio, secure code, hardened databases, segmented networks, security-aware designs, and policy and incident documents drawn directly from your real lab work.
